About The Writers

Nick Upton

I’m 22 years old and currently live in Stafford. Home is Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. I’m a Boston United supporter these days, but grew up a Nottingham Forest fan. My first Forest game was against QPR in the old Nationwide Division One on the 31st March 2000, although I’d been a fan a long time before that. From that point onwards though, I was hooked on Forest and went to quite a lot of games, but since moving away from home for university I’ve not been able to afford to visit the City Ground again, and I flatly refuse to pay over the odds to watch the game I love and fund a moneymaking machine that doesn’t instill any fun into a Saturday afternoon. I’ve since become a supporter of Boston United and attend more away games than home. The Pilgrims are a club I’ve admired for a long time and for many reasons, but I suppose you could say the main one that kicked everything off was a family connection to the town. My first Boston “away” game was around the corner at Stafford Rangers in the FA Cup since then, my love for the club has grown from strength-to-strength.

I’m chief scout at Carlton Town, one of my old local clubs from the Nottingham area; another team that I’ve developed a strong feeling and adoration for since my first visit. Without being biased, I feel it would be fair to say that we have some of the most accommodating and friendly staff you’ll ever come across and the pride I have in representing this club is hard to put into words. We’re currently in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League – First Division South or level 8 of the English pyramidal system and are the biggest non-league club in Nottinghamshire since Mansfield Town’s promotion to the Football League.

I created this site to fill any time up that I have and hopefully meet people along the way. I think it’s important to get a wide spread of different football fans amongst each other, if not for the laughs, certainly so we can all keep each other up-to-date on proceedings. The teams I’ll be most likely to cover are Boston United and Carlton Town. Whilst I make scout reports on Saturdays, I will also be making match reports and the occasional “complete matchday” post on here. I have a personal blog at http://nickjupton.wordpress.com

 Craig Lucock

I’m a 16 year old Carlisle United fan and have lived in Carlisle all of my life. I’ve been a season ticket holder at the club for as long as I can remember and there’s nothing I love more than watching my home team play. I’ve supported Carlisle through good times and bad, from watching them play Barnet at Morecambe in the Conference National during the floods all the way to 2 consecutive Wembley visits in the Football League Trophy, in one of which we emerged victorious.

I do not hold any allegiance to any team other than Carlisle, but I do have a liking for Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur , Arsenal and Everton from the Premier League.  Despite my supporting of only one team i take a keen interest in footballing matters across the country and abroad in countries such as Germany, Spain and Italy.  I enjoy getting involved in discussions on a number of topics, be it football or something completely unrelated.

I have very honest and passionate views on the game and I hope to share them with you.

Tim Scales

I’m a 19-year old student studying Sports Journalism and PR at Staffordshire University. I support Norwich City and FC Schalke 04 but, at the moment, I’m most often seen in the South Bank at Molineux following the fortunes of Wolves. I’ve been to over 40 Football League grounds following Norwich and had a season ticket for 9 years at Carrow Road until this year as university took control of my life. I love watching the Bundesliga, where my liking for Schalke began and rapidly turned into an unhealthy obsession. Like Nick, I also have a personal blog at http://thescalesblog.wordpress.com/.

Jake Walton

I’m a 17 year old Scunthorpe United and Leeds United fan. I attended my first game at Elland Road at the age of 2 and since then I have been to over 300 Leeds games. My love for Leeds is from being brought up as a Leeds fan by my dad, who has followed Leeds all across the country since the mid 70’s. Since 2010 I have held a season ticket for my local team, Scunthorpe United. I was born in Scunny and lived here all my life so I automatically had a love for my local town, down to not being able to go to Leeds much due to my dads work shifts and the price of going to Leeds me and my mates decided to go watch Scunny in the Championship one freezing cold November day against Coventry. Since then we’ve been to almost every home game and a few aways. I also have a liking for many a strange teams such as Sunderland, Dynamo Dresden and Torpedo Moscow of which I watch as many of their games on the internet as I can.

Josh Fisk

I’m twenty years old and lucky enough to be born and raised in West Yorkshire, although I am now exiled at university in the far depths of the North East. As I’ve gone through life I’ve retained everything I was brought up with, from the inability to pronounce the letters “h” and “t” to my beloved football team, Leeds United. Supporting the Whites from a good hundred miles further North can sometimes be easier than enduring the footballing master-class week in, week out but I do follow the club home and away out of term time. Having watched my club for fifteen years, I’ve seen a remarkable transition from the heights of Champions League football to the lows of having the first glimpse of Luke Varney  in a pre-season friendly away at Bodmin Town. My father has seen us beat Barcelona at Elland Road in a European cup semi-final. I’ve seen Kettering Town take us to extra time in the F.A. Cup.

I’m a pure footballing man but differently to some don’t find myself holding allegiances to many other clubs, particularly overseas. My time studying at Durham University has led to an affectionate bond with the local non-league side Durham City; if I could do a post-graduate degree here just to spend one more year watching Craig Ellison, I would.

Like some of my fellow writers, I also have a personal blog; http://www.josh-fisk.blogspot.com or you can follow me on Twitter @josh_fisk.

Demetri Loizou

My hometown club and first love is Chesterfield FC. So far I’ve made it the age of nineteen and during that time have gleefully not invested too much of myself outside the realms of The Beautiful Game. That said, I am currently exiled in the north-east for a degree in Mathematics and opportunities to see the Mighty Spireites are somewhat limited. The void created by this has been somewhat plugged by regular attendance to Durham City AFC, who play in the ninth tier of English football.

Regarding the Premier League, I don’t follow any particular club, although it’s hard not to sympathise with some teams over others and I will gladly support any team playing against Chelski & Manchester City. With my dad being an avid Arsenal fan, his moral indignation towards such clubs and the way they are funded has definitely affected the way I think about football. For instance, I love the way football has moved forward in many senses, but in others I’m a traditionalist and lament what we’ve lost in the past decade.

I may do the occasional match report, but my articles will mainly be geared towards the state of the game and my ideal of what football could be with everything stripped back.

Josh Butler

I’m 22, born and bred in Boston. I’ve been a Boston United fan pretty much all my life and I began going regularly in the 1997/8 season. I’ve been to over 250 matches home and away since through thick, thin and even thinner and living in Nottingham right now, I try to attend as many games as I can- especially the away games. I have also got allegiances to Liverpool (since the mid 1990s), Sheffield United (family roots), East Stirlingshire (since the dark days of the mid 2000s) and I also do my best to follow the then Bundesliga team Alemannia Aachen (now plying their trade in Germany’s 4th tier). A massive sports fan in general, particularly keen on cricket and a big motorsports fan, you’ll rarely find me talking about anything other than sport. Currently training to be a Maths teacher and never shy of a good stat!
